Cedar Springs Hospital Co-Sponsors Community Training EventCOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - (July 19, 2010) - Cedar Springs Hospital, a Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) facility, recently co-sponsored a community training event entitled “Caring for Military Behavioral Health Patients.” The event took place on July 9 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Colorado Springs. The Southern Colorado Coalition of Acute Behavioral Healthcare Providers and TriWest Healthcare Alliance also served as co-sponsors. The event familiarized outpatient behavioral health providers about treatment programs and protocols for military patients and their family members who may be experiencing mental health issues associated with deployment. The goal was to equip providers with information needed to better identify and treat these patients. Presentation topics included PTSD, substance abuse, Veterans Affairs, and TriCare, among others. The event attracted national representatives from TriWest, along with representatives from Fort Carson and several community providers. The event offered Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to physicians, nurses and social workers who attended. The Southern Colorado Coalition’s primary objective is to provide local military installations with sound information regarding services offered, as well as to open the door for feedback pertaining to the military’s needs, what the facilities may do to improve their military services and what is needed from military representatives when treating soldiers and airmen.
